Rainy day in Mallorca: a plan for your guests
A rainy winter day is saved by a well-thought-out indoor plan. Winter hours, prices and free times, what closes on Mondays and Sundays, and what doesn't work any more, like the Sóller Train.
In short
Autumn and winter rain in Mallorca usually comes in odd days, and a guest with no plan either stays in the room or drives around aimlessly. What works is an indoor plan ready to hand, with the winter opening hours, which differ a lot from summer: almost every museum in Palma closes on Mondays, the Cathedral closes on Sundays and the Sóller Train does not run from 23 November 2026 to 1 February 2027.
Everything in this article was checked on each venue's official website on 6 November 2026. Prices are standard adult tickets.

Watch out for Mondays. La Almudaina, the Miró, Es Baluard and Bellver are closed. On a rainy Monday in Palma you have the Cathedral, CaixaForum and the Olivar market; outside Palma, the caves, which open every day.
A rainy day in Palma (Tuesday to Friday)
- 10:00 · Cathedral. It opens at 10 and closes early in winter (15:15), so go in the morning. Allow a good hour.
- 11:30 · La Almudaina palace, right opposite. On Wednesdays, EU guests can leave it for the afternoon: from 15:00 to 18:00 it's free, with ID at the desk.
- 13:30 · Lunch at the Mercat de l'Olivar. The food stalls stay open until 16:00; the rest of the market until 14:30.
- 15:30 · Es Baluard, open until 20:00, or CaixaForum in the centre, also until 20:00.
On Saturday, swap the order: the Cathedral closes at 14:15 and the Fundació Miró is free from 15:00. On Sunday the Cathedral is closed, but Bellver is free all day, and so is the Miró on the first Sunday of the month.
A rainy day outside Palma: the caves
The caves are the classic rainy-day plan, and in winter they're nothing like as crowded as in summer.
- Coves del Drac (Porto Cristo): from November to 15 March there are four tours a day (10:30, 12:00, 14:00 and 15:30). The visit takes an hour and includes the concert on the lake. Book on their website for a guaranteed slot, up to 30 days ahead; not by phone. Their site says rain doesn't affect visits.
- Coves d'Artà: a 35–40-minute guided visit, with groups roughly every half hour, from 10:00 to 17:00.
If your guests are staying in the north or east, pair it with lunch in Manacor, Artà or Capdepera and be back before dark.
What doesn't work in winter
- The Sóller Train does not run from 23 November 2026 to 1 February 2027, and the tram from Sóller to the Port stops from 23 November to 22 December (with a replacement bus). It's the most repeated rainy-day tip, and on those dates it simply isn't there.
- Free buses and trains are not for your guests. In 2026 the TIB intercity buses, the train and the metro are free, but only with the personal transport card, which the Balearic government issues to residents. Visitors pay by bank card or ticket.
How to pass it on
- The evening before, if rain is forecast, send the plan with times already worked out for that day of the week. That's when it's appreciated.
- Say what's closed. "Tomorrow is Monday and most museums are shut" saves a wasted trip into Palma.
- Book what can be booked. Coves del Drac and La Almudaina sell timed tickets online; everything else is at the door.
- Have a plan B at home: games, books and a good tip for lunch nearby. Not everyone wants to go out in the rain.
In the GetMallorca app, "What shall we do today?" suggests indoor plans when rain is forecast, with each venue's hours.
