The Picture of Dorian Gray
View in the app · free, no sign-upA huge tour de force for Àngels Gonyalons. The actress impersonates Oscar Wilde and four other characters to question a world still obsessed with youth and image.
Àngels Gonyalons puts herself in Oscar Wilde’s shoes to stand up for The Picture of Dorian Grey against the attacks by the critics of its time. Through her voice, the audience will be able to revisit all the characters of this controversial novel.
She is Dorian too, the Young guy who is jealous of the beauty of his own portrait, and makes a deal with the devil to preserve his youth eternally. Then, she becomes Basyl Hayward, the painter of the controversial portrait. She is also Sybil Vane, the young actress who captivates Dorian. But, most prominently, she is Lord Henry, the depraved dandy that descends to hell together with Dorian, while his portrait is hideously transformed. The worship of youth and narcissist individualism that characterize this work still resounds nowadays in this world ruled by aesthetics and obsessed by the latest trend.
Under Marc Rosich’s direction and dramaturgy, and Jordi Cornudella’s original music, Gonyalons is supported onstage by a masculine vocal trio and a string quintet. Text and music come together in this delicate chamber piece.
