Sa Pobla celebrates Sant Antoni (Saint Anthony, protector of animals) like no other town on the island. On 16 January the dimoni (devil) goes out with the saint and the singers in the afternoon; at 20:00 there are completes (evening prayer) in the church, then the Revetla, the big night: around 21:45 the devils dance and there is a fire and light show in Plaça Major, followed by foguerons (bonfires) all over town, each with grilled sausages, ximbombes (friction drums) and gloses (improvised verses). On the 17th, around 16:30, come the beneïdes, the blessing of animals with floats, and at 17:30 the saint is put to sleep to close the fiesta. Tip: on the 16th park at the edge of town and walk in; wear warm clothes you don't mind smelling of smoke, and try espinagades, the local eel and spinach pasties.
