Calendar of traditional festivals

Mallorca's big traditional festivals through the year:

  • 16-17 January: Sant Antoni, with bonfires, "dimonis" (devils) and the blessing of animals (Sa Pobla, Artà, Manacor).
  • 19-20 January: Sant Sebastià, Palma's patron saint, with concerts and barbecues in the squares.
  • February-March: Carnival (Sa Rua in Palma). 1 March: Balearic Islands Day.
  • Easter: processions, like Holy Thursday in Palma or the Davallament in Pollença.
  • May: Es Firó in Sóller, Moors and Christians.
  • 23 June: Sant Joan night. 16 July: Virgen del Carmen, with processions at sea.
  • 2 August: Moors and Christians in Pollença. In summer every village holds its patron saint's fiesta.
  • November: Dijous Bo in Inca. 24 December: the Song of the Sibyl. 31 December: Festa de l'Estendard in Palma.

Coming up next: Dijous Bo in Inca, the island's biggest fair, falls on Thursday 19 November 2026 (the night before, Dimecres Bo, the streets are packed); the Fira de s'Oliva in Caimari is on the third weekend of November; the Fira de Sant Tomàs in Sineu, devoted to the traditional pig slaughter, is on 13 December; on the 24th the Song of the Sibyl is sung at Christmas Eve Matins in the Cathedral (from 23:00) and almost every parish church; and on the 31st the Festa de l'Estendard marks Jaume I's entry into Palma in 1229.

Almost everything happens in the street and is free. For fire and gunpowder, go to Sant Antoni (16-17 January: bonfires, dancing devils and the blessing of animals in Sa Pobla, Manacor, Artà or Muro), Es Firó in Sóller, on the Monday after the second Sunday in May, or Moros i Cristians in Pollença on 2 August. In summer look out for the cossiers, old ritual dances with a lady and a devil: Algaida on 25 July and Montuïri on 24 August. Use the train or bus where you can, as towns close their centres and parking is hopeless.

Frequently asked questions

When is Dijous Bo in 2026?

Thursday 19 November 2026. It is Mallorca's biggest fair: the whole of Inca fills with stalls of local produce, leather, crafts, farm machinery and livestock. The night before is Dimecres Bo. Take the train from Palma and get there early.

What happens at Sant Antoni in Mallorca?

It honours the patron saint of animals. On the night of 16 January towns such as Sa Pobla, Manacor, Artà and Muro light bonfires for grilling, with music and dancing devils, and on the 17th animals are blessed in a parade of floats. Wear clothes you do not mind smelling of smoke.

Where can I see Moors and Christians in Mallorca?

In Sóller at Es Firó, on the Monday after the second Sunday in May, re-enacting the 1561 pirate raid with landings at the port; and in Pollença on 2 August, recalling the fight against Dragut in 1550, from 19:00. Both involve loud blunderbusses, so bring earplugs.

What is the Song of the Sibyl?

A medieval chant foretelling the Last Judgement, sung on the night of 24 December at Matins in Mallorca's churches. UNESCO added it to its intangible heritage list in 2010. In Palma Cathedral it starts at 23:00 and fills up, so arrive in good time.
