Dinner tonight without a booking
You can eat well without a booking if you pick the right kind of place: tapas counters, wine bars and taverns that don't take reservations and turn tables quickly. The trick is timing: arrive before 8:30 or after 10 pm, once the first sitting has left, and ask for the bar, which almost always has room. Keep the group small; if there are more than four of you, call ahead. If there's a queue, put your name down and take a stroll. Here are places you can walk into or where there's nearly always a spot at the bar.
