Caves of Hams
The Hams Caves are world-famous for their unique hook-shaped tree-like formations ("hams" means hooks in Mallorcan). The visit is a multimedia experience featuring "Digital Organic," a projection show on the rock walls, and a classical music concert on the underground lake "Sea of Venice." It’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for a cave with a more modern and artistic presentation, perfect for families.
The Coves dels Hams are on the Ma-4020 road from Manacor to Porto Cristo, about 2 km from the town, with free parking. The visit is not just the classic cave, with its twelve galleries and the Sea of Venice lake: it also includes the Blue Cave, where a documentary about Mallorca's first inhabitants is shown, and the Round Cave, an open garden with native birds flying free.
There are steps and the floor is damp, so wear closed shoes and bring a light layer, as it is cool inside all year round; it is not wheelchair accessible. It opens from 10:00 to 17:00, but check dates and tour times on its website before you go. With children, you can combine it with Dinosaurland on the same site and end the afternoon on the beach at Porto Cristo, also home to the Coves del Drac.
