Mallorca's coastline offers magical moments as the sun goes down. To enjoy the best golden hour views on the island, I recommend these spots:
In summer the sun sets in the north-west and in winter in the south-west, so the best spots are on the Serra de Tramuntana coast and at the island's south-western tip. The best known is the Sa Foradada viewpoint by Son Marroig, between Deià and Valldemossa: the pierced rock frames the sun over the sea, and in summer it gets crowded. Quieter is the Torre de ses Ànimes, a watchtower from 1579 on the cliffs between Banyalbufar and Estellencs. And at Sant Elm the sun drops behind Sa Dragonera.
Work out the time: in late June the sun sets around 9.20 pm and in December around 5.30 pm, with the best light half an hour before. For Formentor, remember that from 15 May to 18 October the road is restricted from 10:00 to 22:00. Bring a layer: in the mountains it cools down as soon as the sun goes, and the drive back on the Ma-10 is winding and unlit.

Can you watch the sunset at the Formentor lighthouse?
Out of season, yes, by car. From 15 May to 18 October the Ma-2210 is restricted from 10:00 to 22:00: beyond the beach car park only TIB bus 334, bikes, taxis and authorised vehicles may pass, so check when the last bus back leaves.
Where is a quiet sunset viewpoint in the Tramuntana?
The Torre de ses Ànimes, between Banyalbufar and Estellencs, is usually less busy than Sa Foradada. It is a watchtower from 1579 on the cliffs, looking along the west coast. Arrive with time to spare and bring something warm for afterwards.
