Island life
Taxi in Mallorca
Taxi services in Mallorca offer a convenient and direct way to explore the island, operating under regulated official fares to ensure transparency for every passenger. Upon entering the vehicle, a start-up fee (flag drop) of €2.50 applies during daytime on weekdays, increasing to €2.85 at night, on Saturdays, and during public holidays. The price per kilometer ranges between €1.20 and €1.35, depending on the time of day. It is important to note that trips to or from Palma Airport (PMI) or the Port include a fixed supplement of €4.65, with a minimum fare from the airport set at €16.95.
For those traveling from the airport to popular tourist areas, prices are generally predictable. A trip to Palma city center usually costs around €30 – €35, while areas like Magaluf or Santa Ponça range between €45 and €60. If you are heading to the north of the island, such as Alcúdia, the cost rises to approximately €90 – €100 for a 45-minute journey. Large-capacity vehicles (5 to 8 seats) carry additional supplements of €3 to €6, but transporting luggage, strollers, and wheelchairs is completely free of charge.
Regarding payment methods, modern fleet standards mean that almost all taxis accept credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard), alongside cash payments. However, it is advisable to carry small bills, as drivers may not always have change for €50 notes or higher. To request a ride, you can use official taxi ranks, call Radio Taxi directly, or use local apps like Taxis Palma Radio or MallorcAb, which provide estimated wait times and ensure a professional, safe service across the entire island.
