Trip to Cabrera Island

The Cabrera Archipelago National Park is the wildest corner of the Balearics: protected islands south of Mallorca, with crystal-clear water and a medieval castle.

With your own or a rented boat you can go, but first you need the park's navigation permit: it's free, valid for a year and requested on the park's booking platform (reservacabrera.caib.es). With it, boats up to 15 m can moor for free during the day at the buoys of Es Burrí, sa Coveta Roja and the Port, from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset; these can't be booked, you check on arrival. Anchoring is forbidden throughout the park. To stay overnight you must book a buoy: up to 2 nights in July and August and 7 the rest of the year.

Without a boat, trips leave from Colònia de Sant Jordi, spring to autumn, in 30 to 60 minutes. You'll have time to walk up to the castle, see the small museum or swim, and on the way back many stop at the Cova Blava. There are no shops: bring water, food and sun protection.

Explore guide

In Cabrera National Park you can only land at the harbour jetty. From there, several routes are free to walk: the castle, the archaeological trail, Coll Roig, the Es Celler ethnographic museum, the botanical garden and the monument to the Napoleonic soldiers once imprisoned on the island. Others, such as the walk to the n'Ensiola lighthouse, are only possible with park guides. The island has just a canteen with the basics, so bring water and food; pets may not be landed, and fishing and flying drones without permission are banned.

Before or after the boat, the Ses Salines Visitor Centre in Colònia de Sant Jordi explains the wildlife and the seabed of the archipelago. And if you want to see the island without the day groups, you can stay overnight in the park's refuge by booking ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Can you stay overnight on Cabrera?

Yes. The National Park has a refuge where you can spend the night if you book ahead. It is the only way to see the island at dusk, without the day trips. There are no shops, only a canteen with basic services, so bring what you need.

Can I sail my own boat to Cabrera?

Yes, with prior authorisation from the National Park to navigate and moor. Mooring is only on the buoys in the harbour: up to 50 boats a day, two nights at most in July and August and up to seven the rest of the year. Apply early on the park's website.

Can you take a dog to Cabrera?

No. Landing domestic animals is banned in Cabrera National Park, including on the boat trips from Colònia de Sant Jordi. Fishing and flying drones without authorisation are not allowed either.
