Festa de la Llum: the Cathedral's figure of eight
The Festa de la Llum (Festival of Light) at Palma Cathedral happens twice a year: on 2 February and 11 November, if there are no clouds. It's in the morning, not at sunset: early on, the sun shines through the great rose window above the high altar and is projected onto the inside of the main façade, just below the rose window over the main door, forming the "vuit", a figure of eight made of light.
The cathedral opens its doors around 7:30 and the effect is complete around 9:00, so get there early. If you can't make that day, you can also see it one or two days before and after, with fewer people.
