Tramuntana road trip
The mountain road is the most beautiful drive on the island: bends through pines and olive trees, stone villages hanging above the sea and viewpoints every few kilometres. Drive it from south-west to north-east starting in the morning, with the sun behind you for photos, and allow a whole day: it isn't many kilometres, but it's slow going. Fill up first, as petrol stations are few, and be patient with cyclists. In summer the village car parks fill up by mid-morning, and car access down to the most famous cove is regulated in season: check the rules before you go.
