Emergency numbers and healthcare

In any emergency call 112: it's free, works without credit and they also answer in English and German. Other useful numbers: 061 medical emergencies, 091 National Police, 062 Guardia Civil and 092 Local Police.

The main public hospitals are Son Espases and Son Llàtzer (Palma), Manacor Hospital and Inca Hospital; for something minor, go to a health centre or a PAC urgent care centre. EU visitors should bring their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC); everyone else, travel insurance. Pharmacies have a green cross and there's always one on night duty: the list is posted on every pharmacy door.

When you call 112, start with where you are: the name of the beach or village, the road kilometre or the trail and the last junction you remember. In the mountains and at sea, 112 also coordinates rescues. For something minor, go to the local health centre or a PAC, which handles urgent cases outside normal hours; public hospitals are for serious cases.

Each town's duty pharmacy is published by the Balearic College of Pharmacists (COFIB) on its website, by municipality and time, and it is also posted on every pharmacy's door. With an EHIC, or a UK GHIC, you are treated in the public system like a resident. If you go to a private clinic you pay on the spot: keep invoices and reports for your insurer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a pharmacy open at night in Mallorca?

Check the Balearic College of Pharmacists (COFIB) website, which lists the duty pharmacy by municipality and time, or read the notice every pharmacy posts on its door. There may be a small surcharge at night. If it is urgent and you cannot find one, call 112.

Is healthcare free for tourists in Mallorca?

If you are from the EU and carry your European Health Insurance Card, or a GHIC from the UK, necessary treatment in the public system is provided as for residents. Without it, or at a private clinic, you pay and then claim from your travel insurance.
