Charming local shops
The shops worth your time in Mallorca are the craft ones: hand-blown glass, everyday ceramics, ikat 'tongue' fabrics, palm-leaf and leather goods, perfumes made with island flowers, and century-old grocers and bakeries for sweets and cured meats to take home. Many are family businesses several generations deep, and they'll tell you how what they sell is made. Mind the hours: in the villages they close at midday and almost everything is shut on Sunday. If you buy something big or fragile, ask whether they ship it.
