Island life
Tramuntana
If you only have one day, it’s a toss-up between Valldemossa and Deià. Valldemossa is postcard-perfect with flower pots on every wall; Deià is more bohemian with stunning sea views. Reviews warn: in summer, parking is mission impossible after 11:00 AM. Every village has a link to its official public parking. We recommend turning on app notifications—we’ll warn you if a specific lot tends to fill up early depending on the season.
You can do it without a car: TIB line 203 links Palma with Valldemossa, Deià and Port de Sóller, and gained extra capacity in summer 2026. Its 15:00 bus from Port de Sóller can be booked in advance if you hold a Tarjeta Única or Intermodal card. If you drive, note that central Sóller has been a camera-controlled low emission zone since February 2026: a rental car that is not electric has to stay in the car parks outside (minimum fine €200).
A good order for one day: Valldemossa first thing, with the Charterhouse and its lanes; then Deià, to walk down to the cove or stroll around the village; and sunset at the Sa Foradada viewpoint by Son Marroig. The Ma-10 is winding and shared with plenty of cyclists, so take it easy. If you want to go down to Sa Calobra in summer, go early: when the sign on the road says full, there is nowhere to park.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get from Palma to Valldemossa and Deià by bus?
On TIB line 203, which runs from Palma to Valldemossa, Deià and Port de Sóller. You can pay by contactless card, tapping in and out. In summer the buses are full by mid-morning, so set off early and check times on tib.org.
Can you drive into Sóller?
Only residents, zero-emission cars and authorised guests of accommodation in the centre: since 27 February 2026 almost all of the town centre has been a camera-controlled low emission zone. Leave the car in the car parks on the outskirts; the minimum fine is €200.
Can you drive to Sa Calobra in summer?
Yes, but there are just over 300 spaces and in August 700-800 cars a day arrive. Signs on the road show whether the car park is full; when it is, a barrier and an officer divert cars to Cala Tuent. Go very early or outside July and August.
