A cove to start the day
Early in the morning, coves are a different world: still water, clear light and plenty of room to park and spread your towel. Before 9 am the sea is usually calm, and in coves facing east and south the sun reaches the sand early, which is welcome. Choose by the day's wind: if it's blowing from the north, head to the south or east coast; if it comes from the east, the north and west coasts will be calmer. Bring water and some breakfast, as the wilder coves have no beach bar or it doesn't open until mid-morning, and take your rubbish back with you.
