Watching the sunrise in Mallorca
To see the sun rise out of the sea you need to look east: the capes and coves of the east coast are the best spots, and from the hilltop sanctuaries inland you'll watch it come up over the whole island. The time changes a lot through the year: from 6:20 am in June to 8:10 am in January or at the end of October, before the clocks go back. Check it the night before and arrive twenty minutes early, because the most beautiful part is the light before it comes up; if it's already up today, set your alarm for tomorrow. Bring a layer even in summer, especially at high viewpoints, and a torch if the last stretch is on foot. For something special, there are hot-air balloon flights at sunrise.
