Caló des Moro: how to get there

Caló des Moro (Santanyí) is one of Mallorca's most photographed coves and, for that reason, one of the most crowded. It's tiny, with no lifeguards or facilities (no toilets, showers, bar or sunloungers) and little shade, and you can't drive to it: park in the signposted areas at Cala Llombards/Es Llombards or near Cala s'Almunia and walk about 20–25 minutes along streets and a rocky path. Respect yellow lines and residents' streets, the police do fine.

The last stretch down from the viewpoint is steep, rocky and has steps: it's no place for a pushchair, and with small children a sandy beach with facilities is a better idea.

Local tip: go very early (before 9 am) or outside July and August, with good shoes and water. If it's packed, Cala s'Almunia right next door, with its fishermen's huts, is much calmer.

Explore guide

Caló des Moro is small and its sand leaves with the visitors: a sign at the cove explains that in high season around 70 kg disappear every day, stuck to feet, towels and bags. Shake everything off before you climb back up. It is also a smoke-free beach. On the busiest days up to 4,000 people have come down, so in season Santanyí town hall opens extra parking areas in Es Llombards and regulates access to the area, which can mean queues.

The short path starts at Cala s'Almunia: go down to the fishermen's huts and follow the trail over the rocks. In June, late September and October the water is still good and you can really enjoy the cove. With small children or limited mobility, the last rocky stretch is awkward: nearby Cala Llombards has sand and much easier access.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you park for Caló des Moro?

There is no car park at the cove. In season, Santanyí town hall opens signposted parking areas in Es Llombards, and from there it is a 15-20 minute walk along streets and a rocky path. Do not park on yellow lines or in residents' streets: the police do fine.

What is the best time to visit Caló des Moro?

Before 9 am, or outside July and August. On peak days up to 4,000 people have come down and there are queues. June, late September and October still have pleasant water and far fewer people.

Is Caló des Moro suitable for children?

It is possible, but it is not the easiest cove: there is no shade and no facilities, the last stretch is rocky and there is very little sand. Bring closed shoes, water and some shade. For a relaxed beach day with children, Cala Llombards next door is easier.
