Joan Miró in Mallorca

Joan Miró had Mallorcan roots (his mother and his wife were from the island) and lived and worked in Palma from 1956 until his death in 1983. His home and studio in Cala Major is now the Fundació Miró Mallorca (Carrer de Saridakis 29): the light-filled studio designed by Josep Lluís Sert, with brushes and canvases as he left them, the Son Boter farmhouse with his drawings on the walls, and a rotating collection of his work.

General admission is €10. It's free for everyone on Saturdays from 15:00, on the first Sunday of every month (not every Sunday) and on its open days (1 March, 18 May, 24 June and 19 December); under-16s always get in free. It's closed on Mondays. In winter (16 September to 15 May) it opens Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–18:00 and Sundays 10:00–15:00.

In the city centre, Es Baluard also has works by him, and in Parc de la Mar, facing the Cathedral, there's a large Miró ceramic mural over the water.

Fundació Miró Mallorca is at Carrer de Saridakis 29 in Cala Major. From 16 September to 15 May it opens Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 6 pm (in summer until 7 pm), and Sundays and public holidays 10 am to 3 pm; it is closed on Mondays. General admission is €10, and it is free on Saturdays from 3 pm, on the first Sunday of each month and for under-16s. Note that in autumn 2026 the Son Boter farmhouse is temporarily closed for restoration work, so check which spaces are open.

By bus, EMT lines 46 and 47 stop on Carrer de Saridakis itself (since March 2026 they are diverted via Portopí for viaduct works). By car there are around 60 free spaces for visitors. Bellver Castle is close by: together they make a full morning. Back in the centre, Es Baluard, built into the old city bastion, has works by Miró and a terrace overlooking the port.
