Sant Jordi Book Day in Palma

On 23 April, Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day), Palma's bookshops set up stalls in the street from 9:00 to 20:30, with 10% off books. It is organised by the Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca (booksellers' guild). In 2025 there were stalls in Plaça Major, La Rambla, Plaça d'Espanya, Sant Miquel, Via Roma, Plaça de Cort, Plaça del Marquès del Palmer and the Born, with author signings, book launches and workshops; the caparrots (big-head figures) Na Rosa and En Tom tour the stalls with xeremiers (pipers) in the morning (11:00–13:30) and afternoon (17:00–19:30). The custom is to give a book and a rose; in 2026 florists joined for the first time. It is not a public holiday, so it gets busiest at lunchtime and after 18:00. Walk it from Plaça d'Espanya down to the Born.
