Almond blossom season

The almond trees usually blossom from late January and through much of February. In 2026 the blossom came early in the areas near Palma: in Xorrigo, 10–15 days earlier than the year before, according to the IRFAP.

Where to see them: in the Pla and the Raiguer (Santa Maria, Consell, Sencelles, Inca, Lloseta, Selva, Bunyola, Marratxí, and also Algaida or Montuïri), around Valldemossa, Sóller and Deià, in Llucmajor and, without leaving Palma, in Es Secar de la Real, Son Espanyol and Son Sardina. Don't confuse them with Sóller's orange blossom, which comes at another time.

Legend has it that a Moorish king had thousands of almond trees planted so that his wife, who missed the snow, would wake up to white fields. A drive or bike ride along back roads, with lunch at a traditional celler, is the perfect plan.

There's no fixed date for the blossom: it depends on the cold and rain of each winter, and it changes from year to year and from one estate to the next. It usually starts in low, sunny spots in late January, and the second half of February tends to be the best, with a few late trees still in flower in early March. If you only have a weekend, ask locally or look at recent photos before picking a route.

Beyond Es Pla, the valley between Selva, Caimari and Binibona has an easy loop through almond fields at the foot of the Serra. In Son Servera the Fira de la Flor d'Ametller is usually held on the first Sunday of February, with almond products and crafts. Remember that almost every field is private land: enjoy it from the lane, without climbing walls or cutting branches. And come back in summer: in August and September the almonds that end up in gató are harvested.
