Royal Palace of La Almudaina
Facing the Cathedral stands La Almudaina, the old Moorish fortress turned into the palace of the Kings of Mallorca after the Christian conquest. Today it belongs to Patrimonio Nacional and the Royal Family uses it for official receptions in summer. The visit takes you through Gothic halls, tapestries, the Chapel of Santa Ana and courtyards with sea views.
It reopened in July 2026 after restoration work. It opens Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays), 10 am to 6 pm in winter and until 7 pm in summer; the ticket office closes an hour earlier. Tickets are sold on the Patrimonio Nacional website, which also lists the free time slots for residents and EU citizens.
The restoration has changed the route: the highlight is the Queen's Palace on the upper floor, which was never open to visitors before. In 2026 general admission is €8 and reduced €5 (ages 5 to 16, over-65s and students up to 25), and there is a one-hour guided tour for €16. EU citizens, residents and Latin American citizens get in free on Wednesdays and Sundays from 3 to 7 pm (until 6 pm in winter), with ID and only at the ticket office.
To avoid queues, go first thing and pair it with the Cathedral opposite: together they take half a day. From the s'Hort del Rei gardens at the foot of the palace you get a good view of the walls and arches, and from there you can walk on towards the Born.
