Restaurant Illeta
Rice dishes on a tiny islet off Camp de Mar, reached by a wooden footbridge.
View in the app · free, no sign-upFrom Camp de Mar beach, in Andratx, a wooden walkway crosses the water to s'Illeta, the rocky islet the restaurant sits on. The crossing went up in the 1930s and the restaurant was modernised in the sixties with the first wave of tourism; it has been one of the most photographed views on the south-west coast ever since, and Netflix's White Lines filmed scenes here. The menu is long and Mediterranean, but nearly every table orders rice: creamy red-prawn rice, surf-and-turf, the 'brisa marina' or a soupy caldoso, priced per person. Beyond rice there's fish baked in salt, sole and the catch of the day announced off the menu; to start, homemade Iberian ham croquettes, octopus ceviche or grilled squid; and for meat lovers, cuts dry-ageing in a cabinet on show by the entrance. Drink cava sangria or a strawberry daiquiri. The bill is destination-restaurant level — drinks and extras are pricey — and in high summer tables run in sittings and service can be rushed. In return you eat surrounded by sea, looking out over the boats anchored in the bay, and sunset is the most sought-after slot. The walkway is narrow and you have to cross the sand, which makes it hard going in a wheelchair.
