Cala Anguila
A funnel-shaped cove sheltered from the wind, with white sand.
View in the app · free, no sign-upCala Anguila sits in Porto Cristo Novo, just outside Porto Cristo (Manacor), tucked between two pine-topped rock walls with no hotels above it, only the houses of a residential estate. The sand is fine and pale, a little golden from crushed shells, and the seabed shelves very gently: you can wade a long way before it gets deep, which is why families love it. Usually the water is as still as a pool, but with an easterly wind the waves come in, the red flag goes up and seaweed and plastic wash in. The best of it is along the sides: rocks and small caves where you see fish with nothing more than a mask, a good place for children to try snorkelling. In season there is a lifeguard, sunbeds and parasols for hire filling the back of the beach, toilets, a foot tap, a wheelchair boardwalk and a beach bar people rave about (tumbet, aioli, olives), plus a restaurant at the top of the steps; in spring and autumn everything may be shut. It is a smoke-free beach. You park free in the estate streets and walk down steps, or drive down to a rough dirt area next to the sand. A ten-minute path links it with Cala Mendia, and the coast path carries on to Cala Romàntica. The catch is August: after 10 there is no room for a towel, groups play loud music, there are cigarette ends and litter, and on some days swimming has been closed because of water pollution.
