A fish tapas counter inside Mercat de l'Olivar
View in the app · free, no sign-upThis is the long-standing bar in the fish hall of Mercat de l'Olivar: a counter in the middle of the fishmongers, with the produce on display in front of you and the kitchen in view, plus a few tables set a little further back. The idea is the classic market one: eat what the stalls next door are selling, mostly fried. The most ordered dishes are the mixed fried fish, the Mallorcan variat and frit, calamares a la andaluza, dogfish, garlic prawns, clams and octopus, as a tapa, half portion or full portion, plus an ensaladilla rusa made with potatoes and carrots boiled in-house; for two there's a seafood grill. The counter is where to sit: you choose by looking at the produce and watch the waiters and the stoves at work. But go knowing it isn't at its best: long-time regulars complain of small portions for the price, uneven frying and brusque service at the busiest times. It works better as a quick stop – a tapa and a beer while you shop – than as a proper meal.
