Authentic Mallorcan tapas, generous portions, local favorite in La Lonja.

On Carrer dels Apuntadors, the bar street that runs up from the Llotja, this old-school bar keeps going with a simple formula: Spanish and Mallorcan cooking in sharing portions, generous and at prices you hardly see in this part of town any more. At the front there's a small bar and high tables; at the back, a dining room bigger than it looks from the street, with tables packed close together and plenty of noise when it's full, which is nearly always at dinner time. The house dish is garlic prawns, and around it is what almost everyone orders: sobrassada, tumbet, bacon-wrapped dates, meatballs, sardines, spicy cuttlefish pica pica and frit mallorquí, with bread, aioli and tomatoes to rub on it served without stinginess. The sangria is a big seller too. Don't expect finesse: the tortilla is the moulded kind, some dishes vary from day to day, and the service is quick but can be curt when they're stretched. As a cheap place to graze in the centre it does the job, and it has regulars from the island as well as visitors.
