La Casita del Mar

Seasonal dishes and wine in a small setting.

On Avinguda de Jaume I, the street that runs down to the sea in Sant Elm, La Casita del Mar calls itself a wine and tapas bar, though it works more like a small restaurant with home cooking and a seasonal menu. The base is Mediterranean with northern European touches that hint at part of its clientele: next to freshly baked bread with alioli, boquerones in vinegar, tortilla and manchego-and-sobrassada toast with honey sits a Toast Skagen, the Swedish prawn salad on crystal bread. The rest of the table is generous seafood: a house version of pulpo a la gallega with chips and smoked paprika, bluefin tuna as tataki or a seared fillet and, above all, a half-kilo sole meunière, served whole with caper butter, which is the dish regulars keep coming back for. There’s a proper vegetarian and vegan section rather than an afterthought (aubergine curry, falafel bowl, crispy artichoke salad) and gluten-free options. In winter the menu turns to soups and stews. There are sea views, and the sun sets towards Sa Dragonera.
