Es Trenc is roughly three kilometres of fine, pale sand between Sa Ràpita and Colònia de Sant Jordi, inside the Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos natural park: dunes behind, not a single hotel in front, and turquoise water that stays knee-deep for dozens of metres, so children can paddle without losing their footing. It is long but narrow (there is room for only a few rows of towels) and parts of the shoreline have stones and half-buried rocks. Most people come in through the pay car park on the salt-pan side, where you sometimes spot flamingos: it is reached along several kilometres of narrow, potholed lane, you pay one flat fee for the day whatever time you arrive, and in August you queue or get turned away when it is full. From the car to the sand is about five minutes; by the entrance there are toilets, a kiosk for sandwiches and ice creams and, on the beach, the Es Trenc restaurant. The big issue is posidonia seagrass: this is a natural park, so it is not cleared, and on windy days it piles up on the shore and clouds the water. Some days are flawless; on others people leave after five minutes. Nudists gather towards the middle, with no marked area. There is no natural shade and no sunbeds, and the vendors rent out pricey parasols. Late in the day the sun sets over the sea and the beach empties, though the mosquitoes bite on the way out.
