Plaza de Toros de Son Puigdorfila Nou

A forgotten bullring among the pines, ten minutes from the centre

Among pines and holm oaks, on the land of the Son Puigdorfila Nou estate between Son Rapinya and Son Dureta, stands the stone ring of a bullring that hardly anyone in Palma knows exists. It was first a marès sandstone quarry; later, according to the Son Rapinya residents' association, bullfights were held here in the 19th century to celebrate the end of the harvest. There are no reliable records of when it was built or of the last fight. It has been abandoned for decades: rubbish has piled up in its vaults and firefighters have had to put out more than one fire inside, which damaged the upper part. It is not a museum or a place set up for visitors: it stands on estate land and is a ruin that can collapse. You see it from the track, without going into the ring or the vaults.
