Refugi de s'Àguila

A simple aperitif beside the cliffs of Cap Blanc.

It's on the Cap Blanc road, at Sa Torre, inside a rural estate: the place is an old tool shed turned into a bar, with low outdoor tables among stone and scrub and the cliffs a few steps away. It opens as the afternoon fades and almost everyone comes for the same thing, the sunset over the sea, which you see best by walking a few metres from the tables to the edge. The menu is deliberately short and there's no real kitchen: pa amb oli in many versions (with sobrassada, with smoked fish, with mushrooms and ham, with escalivada and anchovies, or with goat's cheese and caramelised onion), trempó salad with tuna, a couple of salads, sangria and a few homemade desserts such as carrot cake. Everything rides on the bread and what goes on it, and that's the debate: in recent months complaints about skimpy portions and high prices for what reaches the plate keep coming up, and some say it has changed hands. What nobody disputes is the setting, the calm and the friendliness of the staff. Go knowing you are paying for the sunset more than for dinner.
