To get there you enter the grounds of Cap Rocat, the former military fortress turned hotel on the Cala Blava coast, leave the car and ride an electric buggy down to the Caló de la Reina. That's where the restaurant is: an open-air dining room with every table facing the Bay of Palma and, next to it, a little ladder in the rock for a swim before lunch. It's the hotel's informal side, and the cooking follows suit: Mallorcan and local produce, meat and fish baked or grilled, and rice dishes, which are the speciality. The catch of the day, off the menu, comes whole (ask the price first, it climbs quickly); to start, the most ordered dishes are the prawns, the bluefin tuna tartare and the red prawn coca, and the cheesecake, a huge one, is for sharing. After dark the tables are only dimly lit, and there are heaters when it turns cool. Prices are five-star-hotel prices: what you pay for is mostly the place, and not everyone leaves convinced the cooking matches it. For a special occasion with the sunset as backdrop, there are few places like it on the island.
