A day in Capdepera
What to do in Capdepera in one day, in the order that makes sense: Capdepera Castle, Beni Axir and Cala Torta. With the times, the journeys and what it costs.

Hike · CapdeperaCapdepera CastleGo at a cool time of day, as the climb is hard in the heat. Check opening hours before you go: some have found it closed. Even if it says card only, there's a machine that takes cash. Half an hour is enough to see it.

Lunch · ArtàBeni AxirGo for lunch rather than dinner: at night you see neither the gardens nor the views. Satnavs get confused: go in through the estate’s main gate, ring the intercom and follow the private road; for the walk back to the car park after dark, bring a torch.

Cove or beach · ArtàCala TortaCheck the wind before you set off: with a tramuntana or any northerly, don't bother. Wear proper shoes, bring plenty of water and a parasol, and leave nothing in the car. For the way back, climb up via Cala Mitjana: the slope is gentler, and it usually has less seaweed too.

Viewpoint · CapdeperaCapdepera LighthouseLeave the car in Cala Ratjada: there are only a few spaces by the lighthouse and the road is narrow. Walk from Cala Gat and, if you’re up for it, do the 7.7 km loop (2 hours) past the ruined tower, Cala Lliteres and Cala Agulla. At sunrise, when the air is clear, you can see Menorca.
