Can Balaguer
Baroque architecture and iconic courtyards: a journey into Palma's past.
View in the app · free, no sign-upA stately townhouse on Carrer de la Unió rebuilt by the Sanglada family in the 17th century and bought in 1927 by Josep Balaguer, musician, bandleader and patron who helped found the Balearic Symphony Orchestra; he installed a chamber organ that’s still there. His family left it to Palma and, after an award-winning restoration from 2009 to 2016, it’s a municipal cultural centre. The main floor recreates the house’s rooms from 1600 to 1951, with coffered ceilings and fireplaces, and the courtyard has its original porch back.
