Ca'n Jaume

Classic Mallorcan cooking with a weekly menu, since 2000

Since 2000, Ca'n Jaume has been feeding people on Carrer de Cristòfol Ferrer Pons in central Artà the way a village restaurant does: a weekly-changing set lunch for locals and a Mallorcan menu for visitors, with no fuss. It doesn’t look like much from the street; inside there’s a stone dining room, well air-conditioned in summer, and a family that signs its replies to guests as such. The dish everyone orders and that defines the house is salt cod with sobrassada and honey, the salty, spicy, sweet combination so typical of the island, with sauce to mop up with bread. Next come roast lamb shoulder with honey and rosemary, arroz ciego (cegat), loose-grained with everything already peeled, and sobrassada or botifarró croquettes to start, along with tumbet (Mallorcan vegetable bake) or fried eggs with sobrassada. For two, lobster with fried eggs, onion and potatoes is a simple restaurant’s celebration dish. The house dessert is cardenal flambéed with Amazona rum. The weekday set lunch, with starter, main, drink and dessert at bar prices, is how Artà locals eat here, and you can tell from the room.
