Ca’n Trompé

Mallorcan cooking in Cala d’Or since 1984.

Since 1984 it has been in the same Ibiza-style building in the old pedestrian centre, with fine woodwork, rustic furniture, a cosy dining room and a big terrace. In such a touristy centre, Ca'n Trompé is one of the few that keeps a recognisable Mallorcan, market-led kitchen, which is why families and groups from abroad come back summer after summer. Paella is what fills the tables: seafood and fish, and above all the paella ciega, with everything already peeled, served at the table with the rest left in the pan for seconds. After that come tumbet, bread with a properly punchy aioli, fish baked in salt or done Mallorcan-style (sea bass, white bream) and carved in front of you, lamb shoulder with real potatoes, and pork cheeks. For pudding, crema catalana. Portions are generous and the service is quick and seasoned. Expect resort prices, especially for wine and some starters, and the last two summers have been more up and down: the safe bet is to stick to the rice dishes and the house classics.
