When the Renoir in s'Escorxador closed, a citizens’ campaign set up the Associació Xarxa Cinema and reopened it in 2012 as CineCiutat, which now has thousands of members who vote on how it’s run. It has four screens and keeps the original-version-with-subtitles tradition: arthouse releases other cinemas skip, classic film cycles (including a monthly black-and-white screening) and sessions for schools and families.
