Gelateria Ca'n Miquel
Palma’s family ice cream shop since 1979: homemade scoops and coca de patata
View in the app · free, no sign-upOpen since 1979, it still makes ice cream the way it says it does: no preservatives, no flavour enhancers, local produce. It sits on Carrer dels Montcades, just off Avinguda Jaume III, and what sets it apart from the grab-and-go gelato counters of the old town is the display. Alongside the classics you'll find flavours that stop you in your tracks — Roquefort, Jamaican chocolate, chocolate with Earl Grey tea — and, in season, sorbets of prickly pear, persimmon or melon. The almond, with the texture of freshly ground nuts, is the one regulars come back for, together with the toasted hazelnut. All the fruit ice creams, the granita, the raw-almond and tiger-nut horchatas and the smoothies are vegan, so half the counter works for anyone off dairy. It's more than an ice-cream parlour: there's coffee, ensaïmadas and pastries, house-made truffles, cakes to order and a few savoury things, such as pa amb oli or a sandwich in a llonguet roll. The shop is bigger than it looks from the street, with two rooms and high-backed booth seating, and its customers are Palma people of long standing — some came here as children and still find the same flavours. It isn't the cheapest ice cream in town, but the tubs are filled to the brim.
