La Corderia
Mallorcan wines and specialty coffee in a friendly, family-run spot.
View in the app · free, no sign-upCarrer de la Corderia, a few steps from Plaça Major, was the rope-makers' street, and the owner of this little bar is happy to tell the story to anyone who asks about the name. In a handful of square metres, with the feel of an old wine cellar and ceramic cups that are a pleasure to hold, La Corderia does two things: speciality coffee in the morning and wine at aperitivo time. The wine is exclusively Mallorcan, by the glass or the bottle, and every so often they run tastings; the coffee, regulars say, is roasted to the owner's own spec. To go with it, almost everything is home-made with an Argentine accent — chipá cheese bread, empanadas and cornflour alfajores — plus cheese scones, carrot cake, cookies, apple tart and avocado-and-tomato toast for breakfast. What brings people back is the warmth of the owner and his team, friendly without fuss. It's good for an unhurried breakfast, an hour on the laptop or a quiet glass of island wine; not for big groups, who simply won't fit.
