Craft school in Inca: palm-leaf baskets, rush seats, weaving and wool

View in the app · free, no sign-up

A craft school run by Araceli Iranzo and Antonella Farris. Araceli left advertising in Madrid and in 2009 set up Antic Mallorca, palm-leaf bags she makes with Ses Madones de sa Llata, retired craftswomen from Capdepera who taught her the trade; Sardinian-born Antonella learned from them too. Llata, basketry woven from dwarf-palm leaves, is still their speciality, but there are dated courses in rush seating, loom weaving, wool, indigo dyeing, woodwork or jewellery with island makers, in groups of around 6. They're in Fàbrica Ramis, an old factory in Inca five minutes from the station.
