Alcanada beach is a long, narrow strip of round pebbles and a little sand at the end of the Camí d'Alcanada, on the edge of Port d'Alcúdia, with pine woods almost down to the water and, in front, Alcanada islet and its lighthouse, the most photographed view in the bay. It isn't a fine-sand, full-service beach: it's old-school Mallorca, where local families come for the day with a table, chairs and a cool box under the pines, at the picnic spots strung along the shore, and at weekends it fills with day-trippers. The water is shallow and almost always calm because it's sheltered, and with a mask you'll see fish and posidonia meadows; the dried posidonia on the shore forms a soft bed that doesn't smell, though some days the water looks grey and the edge is heavy with weed. The plan people mention most is crossing to the lighthouse islet by swimming, kayak or paddleboard and exploring it, or following the coastal path with its bunker towards the golf course. The dog-friendly section starts at the far end, pure stone. There's no lifeguard, no showers and no bar on the beach, and parking is limited: in July and August finding a space is hard and the police fine anyone parked where they shouldn't be. Great for families with children, picnics and dogs; not if you want sand.
