Can Costa Celler Alcúdia
Mallorcan recipes in a house with history.
View in the app · free, no sign-upThe house on Carrer de Sant Vicenç, inside the walls, dates from 1594, and the poet Miquel Costa i Llobera used to spend his summers here. Since 1983 it has been a family restaurant that bills itself as the oldest in Alcúdia, and it keeps the feel of a manor house: stone, arches, old objects that make it a small museum, and a covered inner courtyard, plus a terrace on the pedestrian street. The cooking is Mallorcan, from inherited recipes, and it shines brightest in two dishes that are hard to find done well: arròs brut, the soupy rice with meat and spices from the island's interior, and salt cod, which comes with sobrassada or with garlic and honey, a sweet-savoury pairing that surprises anyone new to it. To start, the platter of Mallorcan tapas is a good introduction to island cooking. The waiters are old hands and advise well. It's the place for anyone wanting proper Mallorcan food in the old town; if you're after a Valencian-style paella, look elsewhere.
