On Plaça de la Constitució, the heart of life inside Alcúdia's walls, Fonda Llabrés has been serving since 1957 and is open all day, with a terrace on the square. Its value lies in the location and in two particular moments. The first is a Mallorcan breakfast: toasted country bread with tomato and oil, served with olives and pickled sea fennel (fonoll marí), or an ensaïmada, watching the square wake up. The second is the weekday menú del día, home-style and cheap for where it is, with several starters and mains that change daily; ask for it, as it isn't always on display. To take away, the coca de patata, the island's fluffy potato bun. The long menu of paellas, pizzas and burgers for all comers is patchier, and service suffers at peak times. It's for anyone who wants to sit on the square for a fair price, not for a special meal.
