Wine tasting with Xisco Cerro, with pa amb oli and Mallorcan cold cuts

Xisco Cerro got into wine in 1994 with Codorníu, where he spent fifteen years, and in 2011 took over Bodega Pollensa, a shop on a quiet street in Port de Pollença from which he supplied wine to many of the area's restaurants. The pandemic changed his course: he dropped distribution to sell to private customers and to focus on what now defines the place, 'The Wine Tasting Experience'. It's an early-evening tasting around a shared table, booked in advance, in which he opens wines from Mallorca and the rest of Spain, mostly from family wineries, and explains how and where they're made without getting solemn about it. Each wine comes with something to eat: bread with tomato and olive oil, cheeses, ham and Mallorcan cured meats, and something sweet to finish. What makes the evening different is the host, funny and patient with people who know nothing about wine, and the ending: once the tasting is over, Xisco brings out records from his vinyl collection and the table often ends up dancing. Plenty of people come back, and the tasting has become a regular present among those who spend their summers in the Port. If you want a technical, hushed tasting, this isn't the format; if you want a night of wine with people from all over, it is. By day it works as a wine shop, with wines, cavas and vermouth to take away and advice on choosing.
