Fría Sophia Wein-Bar

Wine and champagne on the quiet Plaça de la Quartera in the old town.

Christian was a hospital consultant and Arabella a department head at a bank; in 2025 they left Germany and opened this wine and champagne bar on Plaça de la Quartera, on a pedestrian street in the old town slightly away from the crowds. They describe themselves as hosts rather than restaurateurs, and it shows: they serve you themselves, suggest wines to suit your taste and end up handing out beach tips to anyone who asks. Christian chooses the wines – many from Mallorcan producers, others from Spain and beyond, by the glass or bottle – plus champagne, cava and spritz variations made with island products. Arabella looks after the food, designed to go with the wine: cheese and charcuterie boards, burrata, octopus salad and Alsatian flammkuchen, the thin, crisp tart many Germans don’t expect to find here. The speciality that gives the bar its name is the Fría Sophia, a frozen red or white wine that everyone orders in summer. There’s a shaded terrace on the square, a carefully decorated interior and, now and then, live music and other events. Dogs are welcome and even have their own little bar.
