Mediterranean dining and rice dishes by El Molinar harbour

The harbour building at Es Molinar, beside the fishing boats on the seafront between Portixol and Es Molinar, was under renovation until spring 2025, and what came out of it is Lamucca del Mar, the first venue the Madrid group Lamucca has opened outside the capital. The interiors are by Eva Quintana, a Mallorcan designer based in Madrid and a regular at the group's restaurants, working with local craftspeople: marble from Art en Pedra, joinery by Only Woods, pale wood, iron and brass, and the Arenisca ceramic lamps that potter Tonia Fuster designed for the room; outside there are handmade stone benches and planters. Several features of the original building were kept. The kitchen is about coastal produce and the charcoal grill, served as sharing plates. Start with oysters (the Speciale Sorlut comes with a Thai nam jim dressing) and the anchovy on smoked brioche, ordered by the piece; then the black rice cooked in a llauna tray with a mayonnaise of fonoll marí, the rock samphire that grows on the island's cliffs, or, for meat, the steak tartare with grilled bone marrow or the 40-day aged beef chop. Russian salad with king prawns and Mallorcan tomatoes with fresh oregano keep the table busy in between. The wine list leans on Mallorcan bottles and the bar sticks to classic cocktails. It's the pick for a seafront meal in Palma with proper restaurant cooking but without beach-club prices.
