You have to head down to Es Clot, the low part of Deià, along a path beside the stream, about fifteen minutes on foot from the main street: that walk is what keeps S'Hortet calm when the village is packed. It's a tea room and café with a lovingly kept garden, tables among the plants and a corner with toys for children, run by its owner. The menu is short and almost entirely vegetarian, with vegan options: big, garden-driven salads (such as burrata, mango and avocado), hummus, quesadillas, a veggie burger and homemade cakes such as carrot cake. To drink, teas made with proper ritual, juices, smoothies and the almond granita or almond shake, the most Mallorcan thing in the house. They buy organic vegetables straight from local growers, and the beer, wine and oil come from the area; some are on sale there too. It's a place for a long breakfast or a light lunch outdoors, not dinner: it closes mid-afternoon. It runs on zero-waste lines, so no takeaway unless you bring your own container.
