Vent de Tramuntana
Mallorcan cooking in a garden by the port.
View in the app · free, no sign-upYou have to climb a little from the Port d'Andratx quayside to Carrer Can Perot to find this village house with a big garden of palms and olive trees, a reed roof over the tables, a vegetable patch next door and hens wandering between diners. It has been open for many years and has a mostly foreign clientele who return every season. The printed menu is short and the important part is spoken: one of the owners usually goes round the tables reciting the off-menu dishes, and the sensible thing is to go along with it. Rice is the speciality. Besides seafood paella, try arroz notario, a dry rice with small red prawns and squid, and now and then one with oxtail. Among the starters, the lobster ensaladilla (Russian salad) is how everyone begins; after that come tuna tartare, baby squid, mussels and fish of the day, or meat such as quails stuffed with plums and foie gras. For dessert, lemon meringue and mango mousse. The wine list puts island wines ahead of the Riojas. On weekday lunchtimes there’s usually a set menu, the budget way to try the cooking. Watch the heat: at midday in high summer, not all of the terrace is in the shade.
