Talayotic settlement with sanctuaries beside the Gorg Blau reservoir

View in the app · free, no sign-up

A Talayotic settlement with sanctuaries, in a high-mountain valley beside Puig Major that the Gorg Blau reservoir partly covered. The ruins belong to the Talayotic culture, from the 7th century BC to Roman times, and include three sanctuaries with large central columns, something not known in the same form at any other site on the island. Before the valley was flooded, eleven buildings were studied in 1969 and 1970. Depending on the water level, some walls and columns emerge or disappear. It is not a site with a museum or a marked route: you look at it slowly, often from the road on the other side of the reservoir. It is one of the strangest landscapes in the Tramuntana, and a protected Bien de Interés Cultural.
