The Jardí Botànic de Lluc sits inside the Santuari de Lluc, in Escorca, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. It was laid out in 1956 for the religious community, with native plants only, and between 1993 and 2001 Brother Macià Ripoll expanded and redesigned it with help from former blauets and friends of the sanctuary. It holds around 200 Balearic plants, shown in natural settings where possible, an area of Mallorcan aromatic and medicinal plants, and the island's oldest fruit tree varieties, mostly from the mountain estates. More recently an arboretum was added with trees and shrubs from mainland Spain and further afield. Entry is free, with a voluntary donation.
