Bellaombra Café
A variat from the display case at Mercat de Pere Garau, for a fork breakfast.
View in the app · free, no sign-upMercat de Pere Garau is Palma's big neighbourhood market, and this bar inside the hall is where locals stop halfway through their shopping. Its trump card is the griddle: buy fish, seafood or meat from the stalls around it and they'll cook it for you right there for a small supplement, in an open kitchen you can watch. If you haven't brought anything, the thing to order is the squid llonguet, served hot, the bread rubbed with tomato and oil and generously filled, reputed to be one of the best on the island; there are also llonguets with pork loin, chicken, pancetta or sobrassada and a different one each day. Around that, market-bar tapas: croquettes, squid, baby squid, octopus, torreznos (crispy pork belly), small fried fish and fried seafood, and often a dish that changes weekly and looks to other cuisines, such as a croissant filled with pulled pork. To drink, vermouth, beer and a few wines. Service is friendly, with plenty of regulars. Seats are few, the noise of the market never stops and some portions are pricey for a market bar: the llonguet is the best value.
