Biniaraix is a hamlet of Sóller with narrow stone lanes, and Es Barranc sits on its busiest corner, next to the tobacconist, right where the cobbled path up the Barranc de Biniaraix gorge starts on the GR 221. For years it was the hikers' stop before or after the climb, and it still is for a fresh orange juice or a beer mid-morning. But since 2025 it has been run by a new team, and at lunchtime it works as a small restaurant doing seasonal Mediterranean food, with market specials and a short menu. The best things from the kitchen are the homemade fresh pasta — the scallop and pistachio one is what people remember — the fish (turbot, cod, chargrilled octopus), a very homemade ensaladilla poblera (potato salad) and a well-made steak tartare. To start, tempura vegetables with three sauces; to finish, torrija (Spanish French toast) or cheesecake. You eat on a terrace in the lower patio facing the gorge, or in a small dining room inside. Don't come in a hurry: the kitchen works dish by dish and, on busy days, lunch stretches out.
